About

Paul is an innovative and impactful senior executive with 20+ years in the UK factual independent broadcasting sector. Results-driven, energetic and a decisive concept-to-execution leader with a proven track record of setting strategy, improving operations and delivering against set objectives. He is recognised in the industry for excellent networking, communication, interpersonal skills and working with integrity. 

Paul has had operational responsibility for the day-to-day management of several factual production companies most recently at the Tin Roof Media Group (Blink Films and Outline Productions) and as Managing Director of Reef Television. In those roles Paul was integral to the creative, strategic and commercial direction of those businesses. Specific responsibilities included managerial oversight of all productions through to delivery, operations, commercial, legal and financial affairs. Paul is adept at budget and contract negotiations with broadcasters and managing intellectual property, rights and distribution interests. With a strong knowledge of the international market place he negotiates rights deals with both distributors and UK & International Broadcasters.

Paul has been a Board Director of PACT (Producers Alliance of Cinema and Television), serving on the Council from 2013 to 2016. 

 

Services

Production

Extensive working knowledge of the TV industry with a wide range of contacts and relationships.

Budget, schedule, negotiate and conclude commissioning deals with broadcasters, presenters, distributors, agents, rights holders and production staff.

Production management, oversight and problem solving with a focus on achieving profitability on productions.

Co-production expertise negotiating and structuring deals with co-producers and co-financiers to ensure production  needs are met and everyone’s interested are balanced effectively.

Managing the process of recruitment and retention of key business and production personnel.

Operations​

Procurement and management of back office functions such Legal, Accounting, HR.

Policy and procedure development including HR, H&S, Data Protection (GDPR), contracts, staff structures, hires and grievances including risk management and mitigation.

Procurement for IT and communications support.

Office management support to ensure a busy production office is always fully functional.

Extensive knowledge of in house post production and its effective operation.

Distribution

Appointment of distributors to maximise incomes including negotiating advances.

Overseeing distribution agreements, auditing and monitoring of distribution statements, estimating future royalty incomes.

Preparation of international reversion budgets and working closely with productions to ensure programming is fully cleared for exploitation.

Extensive relationships with worldwide Distributors.

Rights audits to ensure IP is exploited to the maximum effect.

Commercial Affairs

Proving practical commercial advice and business guidance to ensure that the business maximises the value of its idea’s and its assets.

Strategic planning and delivery.

Extensive knowledge of the acquisition process including corporate advisory, legal and due diligence processes.

Work with stakeholders in setting targets and strategies for growth, set and review business plans ensuring your business vision and strategy is communicated effectively.

Knowledge and understanding of Company compliance and governance procedures.

Realising new business and income revenue streams.

Financial Planning / Management

Financial acumen including P&L oversight, budget setting, forecasting and pipeline reporting.

Control of overhead spend, cash flow management and financial control and auditing processes.

Monitoring performance against annual budgets to ensure targets and objectives are met.
